Featured Image

Brownies are one of the most beloved desserts out there. No matter what background you come from, you can always enjoy this classic American dessert. Whether as a tea-time companion or a family snack, brownies are the dessert of choice for any moment.

Brownies itself originally came from the United States in the 19th century. A hundred years later, this dessert became popular in the U.S. and Canada. Since then, people have created many different variations to make their own kind of brownies.

One of the easiest and most decorative ways to elevate your brownies is by adding toppings. Even just a simple sprinkle of flaky sea salt can really change the taste and sensation of your brownies!

Here are some brownie topping ideas to take your creation to the next level.

7 Brownie Topping Ideas

1. Berries

Berries always go well together with brownies, or anything with chocolate, really. The contrast between the rich and bittersweet chocolate taste with some tangy and sweet berries pair together really nicely.

You can add slices or whole fresh strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries on top of your brownies. A combination of berries is also very harmonious and can add more color to your brownies. You can even add berry jam to the batter to accentuate the berry flavor.

2. Raisins

Raisins can also be a topping of choice to complete your brownies. It has a sweet taste and chewy texture that adds a flavor dimension to brownies. There are several different types of raisins that you can combine as well, like black raisins, sultanas, and golden raisins, to make your brownies look more attractive.

3. Flaky salt

Adding salt on top of your brownies adds complexity to the bittersweet chocolate. We prefer to add flaky sea salt or kosher salt; their grains are bigger in size and are not too salty. Do not use regular table salt because the grains are too fine and way too salty for brownies!

4. Cheese

The combination of chocolate and cheese never goes wrong. Add shredded cheese on top of your brownies, then bake them again until your preferred level of doneness.

5. Cookies, candies, and chocolate candy bars

Adding pieces of your favorite cookies, candies, and/or chocolate candy bars can be a fun way to elevate your brownies. Opt for foods that add a different texture and flavor, such as peanut butter cups, caramel-filled chocolate snacks, or peppermint candies.

Additionally, you can also add biscuits or nuts on top of your brownies. Almonds, hazelnuts, and cashews are some nuts that go really well with brownies.

6. Chocolate chips or pieces of chocolate

Chocolate chips are a classic topping for brownies while adding pieces of chopped chocolate can give a different melted sensation. For chocolate chips, opt for Embassy Torres Chocolate Chips 51%, which keeps its shape during baking and has an intense chocolate taste.

7. Frosting

Frosting can add color and sweetness to your brownies. Whether it’s store-bought or homemade, you can simply add your favorite frosting on top of your brownies after baking.

4 Tips to Make Delicious Brownies

tips to make delicious brownies

1. Use room-temperature melted butter and eggs

To create a brownie batter that is well incorporated, make sure that your butter and eggs are in room temperature. Melted butter creates a more moist and fudgy texture, while room-temperature butter makes for a drier and cake-like texture.

2. Prepare your pan properly

Parchment paper and cooking spray are your best friends when it comes to baking brownies. Lightly spray the bottom and sides of your baking paper before adding parchment paper before baking. This way, the brownies don’t stick to the bottom of the pan.

3. Test for doneness

Before cutting your brownies, make sure that your brownies is done to your taste. Insert a toothpick into the middle of the brownies. It should come out with crumbs, but no liquid batter.

4. Cut it right

Before cutting and serving your brownies, let the pan cool completely. Then, lift the parchment paper (with the brownies) to make it easier to cut. Warm your cutting knife by running it under warm tap water or a bowl of warm water and pat it dry, then press it into the brownies until it cuts all the way through. Always wipe the knife with a damp paper towel afterwards, then repeat the process.
